182 - 184 Histon Road, Cambridge

Previously used as a grocer and butchers premises this site was purchased in the early 1960’s and modified to cater for two car bays, a fitting area, an accessory shop and stock room for Tyre Service Company. Over the following twenty years Tyre Service Company experienced rapid growth and expanded into, and eventually relocated to the neighbouring properties.

Under Redevelopment
182 - 184 Histon Road, Cambridge

Once vacated by Tyre Service Company the versatile nature of 182-184 Histon Road enabled a long standing local motorcycle business, P. H. Allin, to use the premises as both a showroom and workshop. P. H. Allin would become a tenant of the premises for the next 40yrs however, as a refurbished pair of semi-detached houses the premises did not lend itself well to changing showroom standards.

Consequently in 1984 an ambitious development of the site was undertaken to offer the tenant a modern showroom whilst retaining workshop capabilities. This was achieved by the construction of a new, high specification, three storey modern construction at the front of the site offering a new showroom at ground floor and open plan office space at the upper levels. Since construction the site has attracted a number of tenants who have adapted the spaces according to their specific requirements.

In 2013 HTS Estates Limited further adapted the ground floor area which now is divided in four separate units to offer two smaller retail/showroom office units fronting the Histon Road and two industrial uses to the rear. These recent changes were to reflect changing requirements of business and has enabled a new coffee shop and retail unit to establish themselves at the location in addition to retaining the historic motor trade use of a motorcycle workshop and showroom to the rear.
